Passwords and icons

Did you know Yahoo! stores your buddy icon on its servers? It does. Makes total sense but still seems a little surprising when I look at it URL form. I wonder how long they keep them.

Did you know if you use auto login in Gaim it stores your password as plain text in an XML file? It does. On Windows the file lives at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\.gaim\accounts.xml. That seems a bit reckless.

I hate that feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when I’m working with someone else’s system that stores the passwords as free-text.

There is a lot of recklessness going on out there. I would expect Gaim, deriving from the Linux community, to know better. Shame!
